Colocation services are a type of data center service in which an organization places its own servers, storage, and networking equipment in a third-party data center facility. The colocation provider offers the physical infrastructure such as rack space, power supply, cooling systems, high-speed internet connectivity, and physical security, while the customer retains full ownership, control, and management of the hardware and software.
Unlike cloud computing, colocation does not involve sharing computing resources. Instead, it allows businesses to avoid the high cost and complexity of building and maintaining their own data centers, while still maintaining control over their IT systems.
